The reality of your body right after birth : how to show some love to your body

You just gave birth, you can see your feet again! Wow!

Now comes the interesting part. That first look in the mirror. Gone are is taut round belly and those proud curves where your baby’s kicks were once visible. Now, you still have a belly and maybe some stretch-marks or a scar with Frankenstein staples. Your breasts are also different. They are larger and your nipples have darkened and your areolas are huge and with little bumps, you may even have a blister or crack After all the excitement of meeting your baby you are a bit surprised and not sure how to feel about this?

BE IN AWE. Your body just made a baby; it labored. It transformed to push your baby into your arms and the power of life came through it. Your breasts prepared for the new way o

f nourishing your child. Dozens of milk glands and ducts are ready and your nipple’s scent and color will guide your baby to them.

YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL. Your body is in its most glorious transitional state. You look like a goddess bearing her battle marks. And this will only last a few weeks until settling down into your new womanly body with a history of motherhood.

YOU ARE AWESOME, because through tiredness and soreness you are still transforming and giving life. Every scar, every skin mark, can attest to that

HONOUR YOUR BODY. You may be very sore or just exhausted and caring for your baby seems to take up all of your time. It is important, though, to take time to honor your needs. Good food, an extra hour of sleep while someone rocks the baby can make such a difference but in addition, you deserve to be pampered and to have an opportunity to show gratitude to your body.

HOW? A few weeks after the birth you can treat yourself to a postpartum massage or spa treatment. A visit to the osteopath for realignment and maybe the acupuncturist. A Rebozo closing ritual including steam bath and Massage or a Yoni Steam session. You deserve to ask for a couple of hours of ME time every week, even if it is just for a bath or a few more minutes of sleep and make it a habit. Your baby deserves a happy mom. THANK YOU AMAZING BODY.
